Del Mar Information and Highlights
If you're looking for one of the most beautiful beach destinations along the Western coast of California, Del Mar is about as good as it gets. However its two square miles of sandy beaches, small hotels, great restaurants that offer a dinner sunset redolent of a city in Italy and population of less than 5,000 can be deceiving. Locals like to call Del Mar the city by the sea which keeps its Spanish heritage intact.
In recent years there's been a few changes made that concern Del Mar, California. No, we're not talking about the Del Mar race track. It's been the big attraction in the community since the days of Bing Crosby and every summer you can bank on this affluent town being jam-packed with hopeful winners who make the annual trek rain or shine. But getting back to the changes, about a decade ago the Amtrak ceased stopping at Del Mar. Oh, the small station is still there, but if you're looking to avoid I-5 that splits Del Mar and want also avoid the beach route to La Jolla and San Diego, you can hop on the Coastal Commuter that makes regular trips from nearby Solana Beach.
