Scripps Ranch Information and Highlights
Scripps Ranch is a rapidly growing, coastal neighborhood in San Diego. It was originally a four hundred acre ranch owned by E. W. Scripps, who later expanded it to twelve hundred acres.
The main attraction of Scripps Ranch is Lake Miramar, also known as Miramar Reservoir. Although it is considered a coastal community, beaches are not within walking distance and are a reasonable drive away.
The community is spread out and public transportation is scarce, making a vehicle a necessity for residents. The area is rather affluent and cost of living is slightly higher than other neighborhoods, although not the highest in San Diego. It also has a notably low crime rate, and only three percent of the total crime is classified as violent.
Several major companies have offices in the area, including LG and Hitachi. There are five elementary schools, one high school, and three colleges in the area. Three hospitals are also available for residents. Scripps Ranch is known for its abundant, mature eucalyptus trees that are most prominent on Pomerado Drive. The community has a high child population, making it an ideal neighborhood for residents with children. The two major natural disaster risks are wildfires and earthquakes.
